Children Are The Orgasm of Life

"Just like you did not know what an orgasm was before you had one,
nature does not let you know how great children are until you actually have them."

My brother, who does not have children, sent me a stainless steel water bottle with the above quote on it, along with other quotes that I might add at another time. While I sit here writing this short post to you, my two daughters who are 2 years old and 3 months old are asleep on the king size bed next to me. My boys are out in the living room playing Lego Star Wars on the Play Station 2 together, they are 3 years old and almost 8.

My husband left a little while ago, he was at his wits end with the children. Talking adoption, he was kidding...I hope! (nervous laugh)
He went out to the movie theatre to see the movie District 9. While I would have loved to go with him, (I rarely ever want to go to the movies, we have different taste in films and I am just not a movie go-er I prefer to sit at home and watch a movie) that would have required us getting the kids packed up and ready to go and also finding a babsitter which is more stress than he needed. So I told him, "I love you, but you need to leave" He looked at me with sad puppy dog eyes like he had been scolded, but he also realized he needed a break. His best friend was working today so he decided to go to the movies. I hope he enjoys himself and is able to let go for a little while. I could tell he was getting to that breaking point, which all of us get to every so often.

I really think the above quote hits parenthood on the nail. It is hard to describe to others, they always seem to think they understand. Then when they have children later on, they say "You know, I really had no idea"

P.S. I love that my girls love to sleep like their momma ;)

Why I Don't Hassle My Best Friend Into Having Children

I know my best friend Charlee will eventually have kids of her own. But Im not pressing the matter and this is why:

1: Sleepless Nights
2: Ear-splitting screams
3: Whining
4: Poop Everywhere
5: Pee on your bed
6: Stepping on sharp edged toys while half asleep.
7: Potty Training
8: Food Facials
9: Boogers on the walls
10: More ER trips than you have ever had in your life.
11: Vomit

Back To School With Organically Hatched

Organically Hatched is a website dedicated to providing mountains of safe child products. Organically Hatched has an enormous amount of Back to School Items, including backpacks like the one pictured above, which I received to review.

The Crocodile Creek backpacks are the perfect size for Back to School Preschoolers. They are large enough to hold regular sized notebooks and folders but small enough to easily be carried by our younger children. Crocodile Creek backpacks are PVC free and are made with high quality materials that should survive the whole school year and even a second!

I really like the unique designs and the bright colors as well as the fact that there is very little plastic on the backpacks. Which is unlike the popular backpacks you found at your local store that have complete pockets made with cheap plastic that rip within the first week.

You can also find matching Crocodile Creek lunch bags so your preschooler can easily identify their lunch.

I am impressed with the amount of products that Organically Hatched carries. It is a website for one stop shopping which is important when you can get everything you need for one shipping price.

Medicinal Scams

We all know there are medicinal scams out there. Tons of them, we see them advertised everyday and we know they are raking in billions from honest people who want results but don't want to do their research.

Mostly it is for diets. Come on, we all know diets do not work and if you disagree you are scamming yourself. Sure you can lose weight, but you feel like your cheating yourself, you feel guilty when you sneak food. When you end the diet you yo-yo back to your previous weight. This post is getting off track so I am going to finish off with this diet thought and then get back onto what I wanted to write about.

The only way to truly lose weight and be happy is to change the way you think. Don't say to yourself 'I can't have that Dove Chocolate Ice Cream bar', say 'I am choosing not to have the Dove Chocolate Ice Cream bar and I am ok with that.'
Dont say to your self, 'I HAVE to have these baby carrots' change that to 'I choose to eat these sweet baby carrots because they are honestly a better choice for me'

With weight lose or healthier living you need to change the way you talk to yourself. Be honest, if you would like to eat that ice cream bar say 'I am choosing to eat this ice cream bar' do not say 'I need to have this ice cream bar now, or I am just gonna flip out!'

Change the way you think, you don't NEED anything, you want it. But you can make a better choice if you would like to.

OK so onto what this post was originally going to be about. Himalayan Salt we know has health benefits, if you have not read this post by my guest blogger Lucy, you should. Here are the facts though, salt lamps are expensive at shops and even more if you buy them online, because of the cost of shipping. Salt lamps are quite heavy and you will pay almost the same price to ship it to your house as the cost of the actual lamp. I did a lot of searching and found the cheapest lamps, with shipping, I could get shipped to me from Target.com. So I purchased one, I suffer from depression so I definitely wanted one in the house, not to mention, my husband is an electronics freak, which adds tons of positive ions into the air. If you dont know what I am talking about go here and read and then, come back.

I anxiously waited for my lamp to arrive and when it did I plugged it right in! The glow was beautiful and soothing, but to receive true benefits from Himalayan Salt it needs to be heated. When it is heated it releases the negative ions into the air which counters the positive ions.
So I waited to see how hot it would get, I wanted to test it so I knew whether I needed to teach my children to stay away or not. There is a lamp bulb that is inside the drilled out piece of salt that is supposed to light and heat it up. The walls of the salt rock are a good inch and a half thick.

Needless to say the salt never even got warm to the touch and after a week, I noticed the glow of light no longer reached to the top of the salt. I took the bulb out and realized the bulb had heated itself inside the salt and the top half was blackened. So no heat and no light.

This got me thinking of ways I could remedy the situation. I wanted to get the benefits from the salt but obviously this way was not going to work. The idea of using a candle/mug warmer came to me, so I ran out to Bed Bath and Beyond and after some searching found one for $5.99.

I brought it home and took it out of the packaging, went across the room and grabbed the salt lamp, flipped the salt lamp over and took out the bulb and the cord. Then I noticed there was a wood base screwed to the bottom of the salt lamp. So I set everything down and went in search for a screwdriver, meanwhile my husband is watching me as if I have gone mad!

I found the screwdriver but I could not get the screws out, they had been glued in as well. So hubby carefully offered to help! Lol, he was still not sure what I was doing but he thought better to help me then watch me get frustrated! After the base was removed I set the salt rock onto the candle warmer and it was a P-E-R-F-E-C-T fit!

I switched the warmer on and waited, every few minutes I would put my hand on the salt to see if it was getting warmer. About 10 minutes in I could feel the base getting quite warm and the middle starting to get mildly warm. After about an hour and a half the salt was hot and we had to teach the kids to stay back! It was working!! Woot! Woot! I leave it on for about 3 hours during the day and after I switch it off it stays heating for another 2 1/2 hours!

I've been thinking about investing in some lamps and warmers, taking the lamps apart and putting the kits together and putting them up in my Etsy shop, but I dont know if they would actually sell, because they would still be expensive.

Now you know though, the salt lamps are truly a scam, Im not sure if you can just buy the rock pieces, I have not found them yet. But if you want to get the benefits from Himalayan Salt like I am, try my method. The only thing that sucks, is that by buying the lamps we are still creating a market and telling retailers that we want them and making them think we are fooled. You never win, huh?

Break Pal

If you follow my blog you have seen my last post, 23 pounds in 30 days. Today is the first day and I am off to a great start with help from Break Pal. Break Pal is a widget that you install on your computer, PC or Mac. And every little while it pops up on your computer screen and instructs you to do an excercise. The excercises can be ones you do easily sitting at your desk or ones that you stand up for. What is great is that the excercise session is only a few minutes long and you can pick which excercise you want to do.

There is a video tutorial for each excerise that tells you how to properly do the excercise and walks you through the complete short session each time. You can choose from cardio Kung Fu, yoga, stretches, and Chi Kung. I really love that it does not make you do a certain excercise but that you can pick from many. You can also rate the exercises so you know which are ones you love and which ones, you would rather not try again.

I will keep you up to date on my progress. If you are at your computer a lot this is a great program for you to check out!
