Tech Tuesday- Plasma Gasification

Ok, so this is one of those technologies that you would think some crazy government conspiracy would shut down and cover up so it would never get out because it would mess up the monopoly the energy companies have on the world! I'm telling you this is sick! CRAZY SICK!!! Its called Plasma Gasification. Basically, the way it works is they take two electrodes and pump a crap load of electricity through it to create a massive spark that's insanely hot. Hotter than the sun hot! Then they throw garbage into it and it blasts the garbage apart into its basic atoms and in the process create enough power to keep the thing going PLUS extra! So you get rid of garbage and in the process you get free power out of the deal. I've been looking at this tech for a few years waiting for some sign that it's bunk and so far it's still sound science. Check out the Wikipedia page here:

The way I look at it, if you could shrink this down a bit you could have these self sustaining mobile power stations that could roll around and clean up the worlds garbage dumps and providing us all with free clean power. That's what I would do with it anyway. So all we need to do is make everything as efficient as possible, get rid of all the processes that produce nasty stuff or destroy the environment, and deploy a fleet of garbage blasting power stations and the world will be right back on track in no time. Then we can plant forests over all the land that used to be landfills, power plants and Wal-m%$@ I mean the self-destructive downward spiral of greed driven planet trashing population enslavement camps. Imagine all the forests we would have then ; )

My understanding of this, though, is that it can leave toxic waste/gas behind. If you vaporize mercury or lead, for example, the vapor would be toxic. Instead of spending money on some half-baked energy program, you'd think a few bucks could go towards working out that one bug.
