Oh the Pollybilities

Name:Polly Cordle
Shop Name:Oh the Pollybilities
Shop Link:http://www.ohpolly.com
Location:Richmond, VA
Ships To: Anywhere and Everywhere

What materials do you use for your ECO friendly products? I use teacups, teapots, and other ceramics that I find in thrift and antique stores

Why did you decide to make ECO friendly products? I have a thrift store addiction. If my husband wouldn't kill me I would keep all my little finds to myself. I just thought it was sad that so much stuff used to mean something to someone and now it sat on a shelf covered in dust. I thought maybe as a new something, it might get a new life.

What inspires you? What doesn't? I guess I am most inspired by other people. I love to see their reactions when they realize a birdfeeder used to be a teapot.

How long have you had your shop on Etsy?I have been on Etsy since March of 2008, but really didn't start listing until May, so almost a year.

Is this a job for you or a hobby?a little of both. I have dreams of opening a shared studio, like those places where you paint your own pottery but mine would have a little of everything. This is my creative outlet until I get there. The money mostly gets reinvested right now into more shows and materials, but I hope to put half away this year to start saving toward the goal.

Besides your business practices, do you do other things to live a green life? I certainly try. This year one of my big resolutions is to give up so much one use plastic. So I stopped by single serving things for my son, started using more reusable containers and that sort of thing. It was kind of weird how much one use plastic was in my life when I really sat down and took a look.

How did you get into your craft? That love of thrift stores did it to me. I started out doing stained glass for a friend who wanted me to learn and make things for her shop. But then I got a little crazy with my glass tools and started using them on ceramics and now I am flat out addicted.

Do you have any advice for fellow Etsy shop owners? Be patient. It took forever for me to get my first sale and I still don't have many sales compared to some folks out there. But I have a feeling my time will come.

Anything else you would like to add? Just that I really appreciate you noticing me and putting me on your blog. I have found Etsy to be an amazing place. The things I have learned and the people who help you and remember you make it a special place. This is just another example. Thank you
